Dear Angela McCown, Director of Victim
Services Division
I
have been involved in the Fire and EMS
service in the State of Texas for 10
years now. Over those years, I have
witnessed first hand what kind of
carnage, damage, and anguish drunk
driving can cause. It is obvious that
Mr. Carter was guilty of his crime due
to the overwhelming evidence against
him. Yes, this decision is a decision
that he is going to have to live with
for the rest of his life. He will get to
beg and plea for his freedom. Well, I
ask you, what about the four girls who
can’t beg and plea for their lives? What
about the families that do not have
their loved ones anymore because of this
senseless tragedy? And this was a
senseless tragedy. This was avoidable,
yet Mr. Carter made the CHOICE to drink.
He made the CHOICE to drive. Those acts
alone are senseless, but then=2 0to kill
4 young women, is senseless. Was it his
plan for that to happen, probably not.
But it DID happen. He should serve his
full sentence. Ms. McCown, I cannot tell
you the number of people that I have had
help break bad news about a family
member being dead because of a drunk
driver. Most people think that it won’t
happen to them, and if it does, they can
get out of it. I am not saying that Mr.
Carter is a menace to society, but in my
personal and professional opinion, he
has not served near enough time for his
crime. Please ask yourself, if this were
my family, and this man did this, would
I want him out, would he deserve to be
out, if you were any form of a human
being, you would answer no.
